South Texas gets second drone for patrolling

The second unmanned aircraft to patrol the Texas-Mexico border has arrived at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi.

A spokesman for Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo, confirms that the Predator drone arrived early this morning.

Officials announced in July that Texas would get a second drone to patrol its 1,254-mile border with Mexico. Along with another planned for Arizona, the drone brings U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s total to six on the Southwest border.

The Predator can fly for 20 hours without refueling, extending by many hours the surveillance capability of a helicopter. Flight crews control the planes remotely.

The new aircraft awaits assembly, and it was unclear when it would fly its first mission.

(LOUISVILLE, KY) -  Outside of the military, no corporation could avoid the huge liability for deaths and injuries from poisoned water wells. Camp Lejeune Marines who were injured by the base’s contaminated water wells are getting the shaft.  The latest statistics from the VA’s Louisville office on Camp Lejeune’s disability compensation claims show an 84% denial rate for medical conditions claimed by veterans for Camp Lejeune’s contaminated water wells. Lejeune veterans and their dependents are covered for 15 medical conditions under current law but there is no provision for presumptive compensation to those injured. The political decision to go with the VA for presumptive medical care but not compensation and not demand that DOD provide its TRICARE health insurance to Lejeune Marines and dependents and civilian workers was a mistake (my view).

NEW YORK (AP) — Two former American soldiers — one nicknamed "Rambo" — and a German ex-soldier faced charges Friday that they plotted to kill a U.S. drug enforcement agent and an informant for $800,000 in an assassination plan created by drug agents who wanted to catch trained snipers gone bad, authorities said.

The charges were announced by prosecutors in Manhattan, where an indictment unsealed in federal court portrayed a trio of ex-soldiers eager to kill for money.

NEW YORK (AP) — A former governor of a Mexican state who admitted to conspiring to launder money in a New York drug case was sentenced Friday to just under 11 years in prison, but may face as little as three more years behind bars in the United States.

Mario Ernesto Villanueva Madrid, 64, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Manhattan to 10 years and 11 months in prison after he pleaded guilty last year to conspiracy to commit money laundering. He was originally accused of conspiring to import hundreds of tons of cocaine.

Villanueva Madrid, a former governor of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, has been jailed since 2001, when he was first charged with similar crimes in Mexico.

Outside court, defense attorney Richard Lind said he was pleased with the sentence, saying it was likely that Villanueva Madrid will serve only about three years in prison once he is credited with time he has already served in Mexican and U.S. prisons and gets additional credit for good behavior.
